Press Release:

One of the great icons of popular music, John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten) is to appear at the historic Albert Hall in Manchester to launch his autobiography Anger is An Energy: My Life Uncensored.

John Lydon will be taking part in an exclusive no-holds-barred live onstage interview, discussing his turbulent life and his compelling career in music with DJ/writer Dave Haslam. He’ll also be signing copies of his autobiography (the book will be on sale at the venue on the night).

As Johnny Rotten, he was the lead singer of the Sex Pistols, who caused a cultural sensation in the mid-1970s with singles such as 'Anarchy in the UK' and 'God Save the Queen'. His next group was the innovative Public Image Ltd (PiL), sonically one of the most revolutionary British bands of any age. He’s also found time to make critically acclaimed and commercially successful dance records with the likes of Afrika Bambaataa and Leftfield.

Lydon has since diversified into television, memorably his own Rotten TV show for VH1 and as a contestant ever on I'm a Celebrity…. Get Me Out of Here! He’s also fronted insect and nature documentaries, starred in TV advertisements for Country Life butter, and appeared on the panel on Question Time.

Anger is An Energy: My Life Uncensored is a look back on a life full of colour, from his beginnings as a sickly child of immigrant Irish parents who grew up in post-war London to his present status as an alternative national hero.

Fifty yards up the road from Albert Hall is the site of Manchester’s Lesser Free Trade Hall where two gigs by the Sex Pistols in the Summer of 1976 inspired a generation of musicians and music fans who then laid the foundations for the city’s music scene. On Thursday 9th October 2014 he’ll be on Peter Street again, for what will surely be one of Manchester’s most memorable pop culture events of the year.
