God Save The Queen

John Lydon wishes to distance himself from any Sex Pistols activity which aims to cash in on Queen Elizabeth II's death. The musicians in the band and their management have approved a number of requests against John's wishes on the basis of the majority court-ruling agreement.

In John's view, the timing for endorsing any Sex Pistols requests for commercial gain in connection with 'God Save The Queen' in particular is tasteless and disrespectful to the Queen and her family at this moment in time.

John wrote the lyrics to this historical song, and while he has never supported the monarchy, he feels that the family deserves some respect in this difficult time, as would be expected for any other person or family when someone close to them has died.

Sex Pistols social media & webstore

John Lydon would like to distance himself completely from the language, tone and content that is currently being used on the majority of official Sex Pistols social media posts. These posts are being published without his consent. They do not represent him in any way. Most of it is nothing short of an embarrassment.

As are most of the new and forthcoming products on the Pistols webstore. Despite his face and likeness being used throughout John has no control over this at the moment and it seems quality control is being ignored. The rest of the band and their management are constantly outvoting him on their monopoly.

As his views no longer count he does not want to be associated with the social posts or webstore.

Disclaimer – John Lydon and FX Pistol TV Series

The Sex Pistols website and social media has now become monopolised by the other members of the band and their management. John has been told not to post anything negative about the forthcoming Pistol TV series. Effectively, the Sex Pistols are now operating and communicating without the input of the driving force behind the band, Johnny Rotten. The below disclaimer is what they objected to.

You may have seen posts on Sex Pistols Official social media about the FX Pistol TV series. To be clear John Lydon has had no involvement in this "dramatisation". He has had no involvement in the script and has had no involvement with the actor who is portraying him.

John does not support or endorse this series.

John would also like to be very clear that he completely disassociates himself from the Fuck Forever merchandise available through the official Sex Pistols online store. It has come to John's attention that the image being used is based on a real person from an old magazine cover. Out of respect for the family of that person John wants it to be known that he does not endorse or support the use of it for any Sex Pistols merchandise. However, the other band members and their manager made it clear they liked the Fuck Forever designs and proceeded against John's wishes.

FX's Pistol

A legal letter has been sent by John's lawyers to the producers of FX's Pistol today.

The fact that the series is being described as "a dramatization" rather than "a factual documentary" does not excuse it from the prospect of being subject to scrutiny for defamation.

John will not hesitate to pursue legal action to protect his reputation.

Pistol Trailer

We were originally led to believe “Pistol" was a Steve Jones story, not a Sex Pistols story. Going by the trailer it doesn't seem to be the case. John’s “likeness” is clearly being used to sell this series, a series he was not involved in, and was put together behind his back. Putting words in John's mouth and rewriting history. A middle class fantasy.

Disney have stolen the past and created a fairytale, which bears little resemblance to the truth.

It would be funny if it wasn't tragic.

The Original Recordings

Universal Music Group have announced the release of a new Sex Pistols compilation entitled 'The Original Recordings'. For the avoidance of any doubt, John Lydon has not approved this compilation and does not endorse or support it. He has not approved the artwork or tracklisting.

He and his team were not involved in producing this compilation and consider it substandard compared to previous Universal releases since 2012.

October 27th 2021

Following further mis-reportng in the media, John Lydon and his personal manager John Rambo Stevens would like to make it absolutely clear that the decision to cancel the Glasgow Pavilion show on Monday was completely outwith their control and influence. John and Rambo were not present at the venue at any point and did not speak to the venue manager or any of the staff on Monday or anytime before. And have not done so since.

The incident followed a dispute between the promoter/tour manager and the venue management; and not John’s personal manager.

We are very sorry our Scottish fans were let down by the failure to resolve this dispute and look forward to returning in 2022.

October 26th 2021

Apologies to any of our Scottish fans who had purchased tickets for the Glasgow Pavilion show last night. John Lydon and his manager John Rambo Stevens were NOT at the venue at any point.

We were informed of the cancellation at 2.48pm yesterday by the Pavilion’s management - without consultation - and the decision taken was completely outwith our control.

John is extremely disappointed and upset that the show didn’t take place - Glasgow is close to his heart and he hopes to re-unite with fans next year with PiL.

John Lydon, Press Statement, August 31st 2021

In January this year, days before a worldwide press announcement, John Lydon was told of the proposed use of Sex Pistols recordings in a six part television series based upon a book written by Steve Jones. The project had been years in the making. Despite this, John Lydon was given just a few hours’ notice of what was to be announced.

Understandably, John, as the creative force of the Sex Pistols wanted to know how he was going to be portrayed and his musical works were going to be used to lend credibility to the series. Despite asking for details of the script or screenplay, John still does not know these details.

John Lydon did not ask for the recent proceedings. He was asked to allow the Sex Pistols works to be used without any prior consultation or involvement in the project. He took a stand on principle for what he sees as the integrity of the Sex Pistols legacy and fought for what he believed and continues to believe was right.

For more than 23 years the Sex Pistols have operated on the basis of unanimous decision making. The Disney production is the first time that the unanimous approach has been ignored.

It is disappointing that a High Court judge has decided that John Lydon is bound by an undated agreement signed in 1998,  which imposes on the Sex Pistols a majority rule arrangement in place of the unanimous decision making process that has been followed for 23 years.

Looking forward, there is great uncertainty about what the majority rule approach might do to water down and distort the true history and legacy of the Sex Pistols. Time will tell.

Whatever Disney does, it is doing it without John’s involvement or creative approval. John is powerless to prevent any distortion of the true history of the Sex Pistols and whatever results will be at the wish of the majority only.

In John’s words “I am the lead singer and songwriter, front man, image, the lot, you name it. I put it there. How is that not relevant? It is dumbfounding to me. It is so destructive to what the band is and so I fear that the whole project might be extremely negative. How can anyone think that this can proceed without consulting me and deal with my personal life in this, and my issues in this, without any meaningful contact with me before the project is announced to the world. I don’t think there are even words that I can put forward to explain quite how disingenuous this is. As I said in the lyrics of The Order of Death, This is what you want, this is what you get…”

John Lydon is embarking on a nationwide Q&A theatre tour in the UK http://www.johnlydon.com/tour-dates

If you have any questions, you can put them to John direct in venues throughout the UK from September to November.

I Could Be Wrong, I Could Be Right Q&A Tour Rescheduled 2021 Dates

We're pleased to announce the rescheduled dates for John Lydon’s Q&A Tour: I Could Be Wrong, I Could Be Right. Tickets are available from 10am today, Friday 29th May, though please remember that not all venues have box office teams in place, due to Covid-19.

Your point of contact should be the box offices at each venue, being patient as they seek to help.

For those seeking Meet'n'Greet tickets – and particularly those affected by the cancellations at Hertford, Watford and Dundee – there are new shows.
The closest show for Dundee Rep patrons is Glenrothes, Rothes Hall on 21 October 2021, though we cannot provide extra Meet'n'Greet on that date.
The closest shows for people affected by Watford and Hertford are Epsom Playhouse on September 14 and East Grinstead Chequer Mead on October 4. The other new dates, where Meet'n'Greet are available, are: Sale Waterside on September 22, Huddersfield Lawrence Batley Theatre on October 14 , Tewkesbury Roses Theatre on November 4 and Bridgwater McMillan Theatre on November 12. The tour ends with a show in London, at Union Chapel, in Islington, on November 13th 2021.

Due to covid-19 and the furloughing of many box office staff, not all venues have an updated show page for John's tour. We will be updating our list for you as the venues provide those dedicated pages.

I Could Be Wrong, I Could Be Right Q&A Tour Rescheduled for 2021

John Lydon's Q&A tour, I Could Be Wrong, I Could Be Right, is being rescheduled to Autumn 2021. Your tickets remain valid and will automatically be transferred across.

The new dates will be announced by venues at 10am on Friday 29th May. The rescheduling is necessary due to covid-19. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

The following may help:
a) Your venue will automatically transfer your ticket to the new date.

b) You do not need to contact the venue. Many venues do not have full box office teams working, due to furlough.

c) Frustrating though it might be, please be patient with venues and do not contact box offices unless absolutely necessary. Some venues are rescheduling more than 200 dates, with limited staff available.

Three venues have NOT rescheduled their dates, these are Watford, Hertford and Dundee. Patrons who bought tickets from those venues will be eligible for refunds. Those refunds will come from the venues. In these cases, please do contact the venues to obtain your refund.

Fans affected at the three venues above will be able to purchase tickets for six new shows that have been scheduled. In the case of Dundee - we are encouraging fans to travel an hour south to Dunfermline. In the case of Watford and Hertford, tickets are available at St Albans. In the case of Meet'n'Greet ticket holders for Watford and Hertford, new meet'n'greet tickets are being made available at two new venues: Epsom and East Grinstead. These are the closest Meet'n'Greet tickets to their original venue.

Details regarding the other new venues will be released on Friday 29th May at 9am.

Key information in brief:

a) Your tickets will be transferred to the new dates

b) Those who missed out at Hertford, Watford and Dundee will have other options elsewhere

c) Please avoid contacting venue box offices unless in case of an emergency - your transfer to the new dates will be automatic.

The new John Lydon Resource Centre plaque at the Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary has now been installed. Due to the Covid-19 outbreak the sanctuary is now closed to visitors which means a big loss in income. If you would like to help you can donate via their website.

From Tacugama, "Last week the team had to rescue two new babies and a 3 year old. One of the babies has bad flu and isn't in good shape."
